2022 - Current Mk8 GTI / Golf R

The 8th Generation (Mk8) of Volkswagen's GTI was released in the US for the 2022 model year. Unlike previous generations, it was offered here exclusively as a 4dr hatchback. Power comes from a turbocharged 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine and was routed to the wheels via either a 6 speed manual transmission or a dual clutch (DSG) transmission. For the 2025 model year it received a mid-cycle refresh, with newer models being commonly referred to as Mk8.5's. 

The Golf R featured a more potent version of the 2.0 liter, along with a new All Wheel Drive system, and was available starting with the 2022 model year as well.
